Building better marriage relationships is what we're about.
It all started back in 1952 with a priest in Spain who began developing conferences for married couples. Fast forward to 1967 when the experience made its way to a Christian Family Movement conference at Notre Dame. Father Chuck Gallagher, a Catholic priest, along with a few couples from New York were so excited about Marriage Encounter that they quickly spread the Weekend to couples in the New York area.
In 1971, Worldwide Marriage Encounter began growing around the United States and other parts of the world. "ME" Weekends are now held in over 90 countries around the world.
Marriage Encounter United Methodist was born out of the vision of several couples who experienced the Weekend in New York, Kansas, and Colorado. The Roman Catholics reached out with great generosity to train presenting couples and to offer other support. The first United Methodist Weekends were held in the fall of 1976.
The first Engaged Encounter Weekend was held in Arizona in 1984.
Today the dream continues, and United Methodist Weekends are being presented across the United States and Puerto Rico.
We invite you to experience an Encounter Weekend for yourself!
