What is Marriage Encounter?
The Marriage Encounter Weekend is a positive and personal experience which offers a technique of loving communication which you can use for the rest of your life. It's an opportunity for a couple to look deeply into their own relationship in an honest face-to-face, heart-to-heart encounter.
How is Marriage Encounter unique?
Marriage Encounter is not a retreat, marriage clinic, or sensitivity course. You share privately with your partner but DO NOT share any aspect of your marriage with the group. It is a positive, enriching weekend in which you concentrate on your spouse to such an extent that you are hardly aware of the other couples on the weekend.
What is the purpose of the encounter weekend?
The main focus of the weekend is for you to learn a technique of communication which allows and encourages you to explore the important areas of your life together in a spirit of love and understanding.
What happens on an encounter weekend?
Sessions are held Friday night through Sunday afternoon. An atmosphere is created during the weekend in which you can focus on one another. A series of talks is given by a team of one clergy and three lay couples. The purpose of each presentation is to inspire you to become more aware of your feelings about various aspects of your own marriage. Following each presentation, there is a time for personal reflection. Then, in the privacy of your own room, husband and wife are given the opportunity to express these feelings to each other.
What happens after the encounter weekend?
Marriage Encounter does not end with the weekend. By using the communication technique learned during the weekend, husband and wife can continue to develop a relationship that becomes more wonderful every day.
Who is Marriage Encounter for?
Marriage Encounter is for ANY couple who loves each other and desires a richer fuller marriage. Even the best of marriages can find new meaning and deepened joy whether they have been married a short time or for many years. Marriage Encounter is open to all couples regardless of faith, race, age, education, or financial status.
What does Marriage Encounter cost?
A non-refundable registration fee confirms your food and lodging for the weekend. Each couple is given a blank envelope near the end of the weekend in which a confidential donation may be placed. No one is ever refused the opportunity to attend a weekend because of finances.
